The health secretary noted that deaths from contagious disease dropped before the introduction of vaccines.

Measles deaths, for example, numbered about 13,000 a year in 1900, but had declined to a few hundred by 1960, Kennedy said. The first measles vaccine was not released until 1963.

In the case of tuberculosis, he said, there was a sharp decline in deaths before the vaccine was introduced.

Kennedy said that vaccines “are a critical part of public health” that “can prevent infections like measles altogether” but that “blind faith in vaccination alone as our only recourse against death by infection has inclined our medical system to discount the role of therapeutic drugs and vitamins and diet exercise and other lifestyle changes that might fortify human immune systems against all kinds of sickness.”

Why was Mahmoud Khalil Arrested ?

• The Agency: Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
• The Reason: His activism for Palestinian rights and involvement in pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia University.

WHO is Mahmoud Khalil (from CANARY MISSION)

"Mahmoud Khalil was only here for two years. We gave him free housing, free food, and an Ivy League education. As soon as his feet touched our soil, he began to foment hatred and incite violence. He's leaving with nearly half a million dollars. But fuck America, right?"

NPR: After 104 days in a Louisiana immigration detention center (arrested March 8, 2025) Columbia graduate Mahmoud Khalil has been released on bail.

Mahmoud Khalil was released from federal custody on Friday, June 20, 2025, more than three months after immigration agents arrested and detained him as the first student targeted for deportation by President Trump's crackdown on pro-Palestinian protesters.

Khalil's legal team said they planned to quickly get him on a plane back to New York, where he'll reunite with his wife and his two month old son, who was born while he was in detention. NPR

Khalil plans to continue advocating for Palestinian rights and protesting the war in Gaza, according to NPR. 

He has also expressed interest in continuing to engage with lawmakers to promote his cause, reports Al Jazeera. .... 

“Let’s be clear, Mahmoud was detained for his political speech,” said Professor Nadia Abu El-Hajj, co-director of Columbia’s Center for Palestine Studies.

Another Columbia professor, Marianne Hirsch, the daughter of Holocaust survivors who grew up in communist Romania, said the arrest “brought back my most tormenting childhood memories.”

Khalil is thought to be the first person targeted by the Trump administration as part of its pledge to deport international students involved in protests against the war in Gaza.  (JVP- Religion News)
